Conservation of Fine Art
A Note on What We Do
David Stein & Co specialises in art restoration and museum standard conservation of paintings from heirlooms to fine art. The studio is the leading and most experienced private practice in Australia, employing three highly skilled and qualified paintings conservators. As a small practice you are assured of expert attention and confidentiality ensuring your painting is in the best care. As conservators we abide by international conservation standards and the Australian Code of Ethics (AICCM & IIC) which remain paramount to the business.
David Stein & Co restores paintings on canvas and board, from early European through to modern and contemporary works. We have extensive experience and knowledge of Australian art with a particular interest in some of the unique problems identified with many artists and their use of materials and techniques.
Restoration and repairs of tears, holes, cracking and flaking paint, mould, light damage, discolouration, transport damage, and fire and water damage are commonly undertaken in the studio. We are well known for our expertise in complex structural treatments where we utilise our large, Willards vacuum lining hot table for the specialised treatments of impregnation and lining.
Estimates for restoration can be obtained online; see the contact page. Appraisals for the value of your painting are free in the studio.
